Post title

At this point I am almost breathless at the steady stream of new talent appearing the Gondwana Records label. In addition to such names as Hania Rani, Portico Quartet, and Mammal Hands, we have lately been introduced to Svaneborg Kardyb, Jasmine Myra, Caoilfhionn Rose to name but a few. The latest stellar debut on the label arrives in the form of Still, there is the sea by Montreal based composer & singer Ambre Ciel, an enchanting album which blends graceful piano lines and dreamy melodies accompanied by lush arrangements of strings, winds, & brass.

On a personal level, I was searching for silence. I had just finally moved to a quiet apartment in Montreal and for the first time, I had all the time and space to hear silence and create, being solitary and living in the intangible world of possibilities

Ambre Ciel

The label fittingly frames Still, there is the sea as “dreamy, expansive, spacious music” that “invites the listener into a space of quiet escapism”. Ciel, who sings in both in English and French on the record, has a mesmerizing voice with wonderful range and demonstrates both an ear for gorgeous melodies and a penchant for inventive arrangements. It all coalesces into a spellbinding sound that is at once intimate and transportive. All in all, a lovely journey into the creative inner world of an artist we can only hope to hear much more from in the near future.
